Poetry Wrap-Up
What's on thing you've grown to understand, appreciate, or value about poetry that you haven't in the past?
When I learned that poetry was going to be one of the first topics in this English class, I was, to say the least, not excited. I have never been a fan of poetry simply because I do not understand it a good majority of the time. But as our class got deeper into the unit, I began to change my mind. I started to pick up on more and more as we analyzed poems, and now I can say that truly I appreciate poetry and poets. I never understood poetry because I didn't understand what the author was trying to say in their works, but I see now how with the use of their figures of speech and sound devices that they give their words emotion and depth. The most important thing I can take out of this unit is the respect that I now have for poetry and poets.

I, as the child of two Argentinian immigrants, see the American Dream different than most of my peers. To my parents, America was the land of opportunity, a place to be successful and have a good life. That to me is the American Dream. Having success in what you do, no matter what it is. This differs from what we talked about in class because I do not believe it is about money, or it is selfish. The American Dream is your dream, and America is the place it can come true.
